Job Summary
- Fiber Optics Technician is responsible for the installation of new cable lines, both underground and on utility poles, and performs maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repair. The Technician will prep and work on fiber optic cables, locate problem areas and perform other repairs as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities ·
- Review Plans and Specifications with Area Manager prior to assignment of Technicians to a project.
- Determine the best suited employee for each project on a project by project basis· Maintain all splice and test equipment, track calibration dates.
- Report any/all equipment problems to the Equipment Manager.
- Make Area Manager aware of material needs, especially consumables ( ie. kimwipes, heat shrinks, alcohol, QBE ElectroWash). Area Manager should be tracking project materials.
- Daily reports and timesheets...ensure that all Technicians are submitting PCS required paperwork each day, ensure that data report is accurate.
- Equipment inspections: All equipment is to be inspected weekly, and reports are submitted to the Equipment Manager.
- Train and assist other Technicians with tasks and/or new skills and equipment—follow-up.
- All Personnel Concerns are to be brought to the attention of Company President immediately.
- Update the Area Manager with project status each day so scheduling can be adjusted based on progress.
- Evaluation of employees under direction of the lead technician in Coordination with Area Manager and Company President.
- Assist Engineering Department with GPS locates.
- Attend Project Meetings at the start of a project and when technical issues arise·
- Cable Installation: Must have a clear understanding and be able to install cable in aerial, underground, and inside plant environments. Must understand the operation of bucket truck, lasher, blower and tugger-including slack requirements for cable. Must be capable of reading and comprehending project plans and specifications and the ability to apply this understanding in the field. ·
- Cable Management: Slack and proper routing, dressing cable in cabinet, vaults, manholes, pullboxes, Telecommunication Rooms, hubs, and any/all accessible points· *
- Prepping cable : Proper management in splice enclosures, termination cabinets to allow for Re-entry for maintenance through the life of the cable plant. Prep for proper length of fiber for fan-out kits if applicable*

Connectors :
- All types. Follow manufacturer's recommendation for the installation of each individual type of connector. Keep in mind cleanliness. Connector end faces is to be cleaned with Cle-top or QBE Electro Wash rather than alcohol. Technicians PCS utilizes the following connector types: 3M Hot Melt, Corning Unicam, Anaerobic, and Heat Cure Connectors. ·

ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS:
- Installation & integration of FO Modems, Ethernet switches, routers, repeaters, IP addresses.
- Installation and integration of CCTV equipment and electronic equipment.
- Network troubleshooting: must be done in a systematic manner. Be careful not to shot lasers into active equipment receivers.
- Other Duties as may be assigned by Management.
Job Requirements
- The characteristics required to fill this position is of a self-starter that is task oriented, logical, detail-oriented person with excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to interface and communicate with customers clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work in all types of terrain and hazards (grass, gravel, ditches, etc.), all types of environments (construction sites, highways, industrial, private property, etc.) and all types of weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift 85lbs with the help of another, climb ladders, work with heights up to 30 ft., and in tight or enclosed spaces.
- Must be available for evening work on occasion.
- The work can take place on new construction sites or existing occupied facilities and may include carrying and moving parts and equipment.
- Accurately and consistently wear safety gear, and operate safety equipment, provided.
- Some computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Job Requires travel throughout the Southeast United States. PCS requires men to room 2 to a room when traveling in Company provided hotels/short term lodging.
- Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license, a clean record and be insurable with our auto insurance carrier during course of employment.

Experience: Education & Certifications
- High school diploma and two (2) years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college work or vocational or technical training program in electronics or communications may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Other recognized certifications that would be a plus would include BICSI, IMSA, ETA, Fiber Optic Association, Maintenance of Traffic, Forklift, OSHA and CPR.
