Scottsdale Heart Surgery Center is looking for a Rad tech with cath lab experience or an RCIS Technician!

Job Description

Overall Responsibility:

Under general supervision, makes preparation, operates equipment and assists physicians in performing cardiac catheterizations and other special procedures; performs hemodynamic monitoring and other duties as assigned. Provides direct patient care to the cardiac/cath lab patients. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of duties and phases of cardiac procedures.

Key tasks and responsibilities (essential functions)

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all phases of cardiac cath lab procedures to include hemodynamic monitoring and electrocardiograph recognition.
  • Demonstrates skills, knowledge, and ability to perform as first scrub assistant for all adult diagnostic and interventional cases including PTCA, Stents, IVUS, Angiojet, cutting balloon, IABP, Rotoblater, and permanent Pacemaker insertion or Defibrillator insertion.
  • Assists and scrubs in with the physician in angiographic, therapeutic, and interventional imaging procedures. Performs electrophysiology and ablation procedures. Provides quality patient care and monitoring during all phases of the procedure in accordance with physician instructions and established policy. Has working knowledge of all equipment, inventory, and location of supplies. Operates emergency equipment safely.
  • Fluoroscopic equipment manipulation.
  • Demonstrates skills, knowledge and ability to perform as first scrub assistant for all diagnostic and therapeutic EP studies. Understands and is able to utilize all equipment specific to EP studies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of various radiographic injection techniques.
  • Manipulates hemodynamic recording/procedural record equipment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ACT and oximeter devices.
  • Maintains adequate basic interventional and cardiac supplies. Orders supplies from outside vendors in purchasing system. Assists supervisor with all aspects of inventory control.
  • Knows cardiac anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the facility in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Works in a multifunctional team environment and demonstrate ability to set priorities.
  • Displays knowledge and skills for sheath removal and achievement of hemostasis (manual and device)
  • Operation of imaging equipment, recording and hemodynamic monitoring equipment, cine capture and archiving equipment, image review stations.
  • Operate Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump.
  • Maintain arterial pressure lines.
  • Check, test, and maintain imaging equipment in Operating Room suite and report findings to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
  • Knowledge of and practices concept of “ALARA”
  • Proficient in vascular access site sheath removal and assessment.
  • Ordering and stocking.
  • Education / Precepting of new hires.
  • Critical thinking skills – uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Adherence to OSHA standards
  • Assumes responsibility for continually increasing knowledge and skills pertinent to the position.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

Licensure and Certification:  High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a formalized ARRT, RCIS or allied health program or one year practical experience in the health field. Must maintain current BLS and ACLS, if not current when hired, must complete training within three months of hire.

Experience required:  High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have at least two years of experience working in an interventional cardiac cath lab. Must be proficient at patient monitoring, procedure documentation and operation of imaging equipment. Experience with non-cardiac, peripheral vascular angiography and intervention is preferred.

Environmental and physical requirements - Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, filing and sterile technique skills. Communication skills to deal well with employees and physicians. Vision for near, mid-range, far and accommodation. Hearing for low, medium, and high pitch. Job requires physical ability for long term standing, occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching with reaching above head and below waist. Job risk include exposure to blood and body fluids (high), contact with laser and chemicals, lifting of 30 - 40 pounds, and exposure to infectious disease.
