Position Title: Plant Manager - Hazardous Waste Facility

About the role:
Job Summary: Giant Resource Recovery is seeking a Plant Manager for its Attalla Alabama location. The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations at the hazardous waste facility, ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role involves managing plant personnel, optimizing operational efficiency, and ensuring proper waste handling, treatment, and disposal. The Plant Manager will also be responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, implementing the best practices, and ensuring the safety of employees and the surrounding environment. This position is responsible for maintaining and protecting the assets of the company at the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily plant operations, including waste receipt, processing, storage, and disposal and scheduling.
- Works closely with all departments and functions at the Plant to ensure that maintenance, scheduling, operations, sales, EHS and laboratory operations are in constant communication and working closely to achieve the plants' daily objectives.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including EPA, OSHA, and DOT guidelines.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Manage plant staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Monitor plant performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain plant equipment and infrastructure, ensuring proper maintenance and timely repairs.
- Develop and manage budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Liaison with regulatory agencies and ensure all required permits, records, and reports are maintained and submitted as necessary.
- Implement emergency response procedures and ensure staff are trained for potential hazardous incidents.
- Collaborate with upper management to develop and achieve operational goals and strategic initiatives.
- Works with the local Chamber, Mayor and other officials to maintain and improve the company's presence and reputation while supporting the local community.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in hazardous waste management or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of hazardous waste regulations (RCRA, DOT, TSCA, etc.).
- Experience in plant operations management, including personnel and financial oversight.
- Proven leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations and implement safety protocols effectively.
- Proficiency in using plant management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to hazardous materials, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols.
- Requires the occasional use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
- Work may involve standing, walking, lifting, and operating equipment in various environmental conditions.
