The Department of Social Services- Office of Recoveries and Fraud Investigations is seeking an articulate professional who is organized, energetic, motivated, and dependable. This individual must be driven by our vision to build Strong Families, South Dakota's Foundation and Our Future. The Office of Recoveries and Fraud is seeking a candidate to fill the role of Fraud Investigator. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating cases to ensure that applicants obtain and utilize benefits appropriately according to federal and state regulations. This includes conducting investigations of alleged fraud, researching investigative databases, conducting surveillance, obtaining and preparing evidence, writing comprehensive reports, and interviewing witnesses and subjects of investigation. Fraud Investigators work a flexible schedule that includes both office and field work as appropriate to meet the needs of their investigative case load.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Knowledge of:
- interviewing and investigative techniques;
- data access procedures;
- effective methods of benefit fraud detection;
- Department of Social Services program policies and procedures;
- rules and regulations pertaining to recovering improper benefit payments.
Skills to:
- organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up with minimal direction;
- attention to detail;
- formerly request relevant documentation and review information obtained;
- establish and maintain investigative case files.
Ability to:
- deal tactfully with others;
- communicate clearly and concisely;
- objectively analyze conflicting allegations, documents, as well as written and verbal statements;
- prepare clear and consice correspondance and written reports;
- testify at hearings;
- exercise judgement and discretion in applying and interpreting laws, regulations, and policies;
- draw conclusions based on facts or evidence.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
